Does Gold or Silver Jewelry Suit You Better?

So you want to start wearing everyday jewelry but don’t know where to start.  You want to know what type of metal to invest in to make you look your best. A couple of things go into picking out the right type and style of jewelry to wear based on various factors. These factors include skin undertones, personal preferences, etc. The first thing you need to determine when choosing what type of jewelry suits you best is to figure out what your undertone is. Generally, warmer undertones look better in gold, and cooler in silver, but that is not always true.

How to Determine Your Undertone

There are a few different ways to determine your undertone. The first and most common is to take a look at the veins on the inside of your wrists. If your veins look blue or purple then you have cool undertones. If they are yellow or green then you most likely have warm undertones. And if your veins aren’t visible then you have neutral undertones. If this test doesn’t work for you there are still other ways to determine your undertones.

Another simple way to determine your undertones is by wearing a white shirt. If you look washed out in white then you have a cool undertone. If your skin looks tanned and healthy with the white shirt, you have warm undertones. How easily you tan is also an indicator of what your undertone may be. If you burn easily and become red often your undertone is cool, on the other hand, if you tan easily and have a darker complexion then your undertone is warm.

The last way that I’m going to talk about how to discover your undertone is based on your natural hair color. Icy blondes, light brunettes, and redheads will more often than not have cool undertones while dark brunettes and black hair are associated with warmer undertones.

Picking Your Jewelry

Now that you have determined your undertone we can look a what jewelry best suits your complexion. When it comes to choosing between silver and gold jewelry, silver normally works better with cooler undertones. Whereas gold goes better with warmer undertones. Gold jewelry can make someone with a cool undertone appear more pale than they actually are. Silver jewelry on warm undertones can look a bit jarring. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is what type of jewelry makes you feel the most confident. You can always mix and match the different metals to make your own unique look.
